John Mackey, co-creator of Whole Foods, is heading for retirement after 4 decades at the helm of the natural foods icon. Food Business News has announced that Jason Buechel, currently chief operating officer at Whole Foods, will be taking over as CEO.
Brett Christoffel, founder of All Y’alls Foods, makers of Jerky Y’all, announced that the company doubled their Amazon sales in 2022. As highlighted in VegWorld Magazine, the vegan snack maker has seen tremendous growth over the last year with its 3 flavors of jerky: Black Pepper & Sea Salt, Prickly Pear Teriyaki, and Prickly Pear Chipotle as well as vegan bacon bits: It’s Big Crunchy Bacony Bits Y’all. Yellow Banana, a retail grocery platform that owns and operates over 30 Save A Lot locations, has partnered with Flashfood, a food waste reduction platform. Flashfood’s services are now available at every Yellow Banana Save A Lot location, expanding into Dallas for the first time. Flashfood connects consumers with discounted food nearing its best by date via a mobile app. According to Feeding America, 11.8% of households across the U.S. are food insecure. However, food insecurity rates in Dallas County are 12.2%. The partnership between Flashfood and Yellow Banana will improve accessibility to affordable fresh food in our area.
According to D Magazine, Tyler Shin, owner of Revolving Kitchen in Garland, is about to open another location in Fairview with up to 4 more locations possible in 2023. Shin’s popular 35,000 sq. ft. “ghost” kitchen has made its mark with local chefs, bakers and restaurateurs who can choose from hourly or long-term rental options. Learn more here.

Dallas is poppin’ up! Vimal Kansara of Dallas-based Boon Distribution just acquired air-popped water lily seed snack maker, Bohana, from Boston, according to NOSH. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Many of you may remember Bohana from Shark Tank when they accepted a $200,000 deal from Kevin O’Leary. Kudos to this innovative company for continuing their success – and welcome to Dallas!
In more local business news, Texas-based Keurig Dr Pepper has bought a 30% stake in Nutrabolt, the maker of energy drinks such as C4 Energy and XtendEnergy, for $863 million, the companies said in a statement. This continues a trend for Keurig Dr Pepper as they either invest in or outright purchase startups and up-and-coming companies
